Joseph N. Sanberg is a public and private-sector entrepreneur and investor harnessing the power of innovation to improve the quality of life for all.
Combining his passion to open the doors of opportunity to everyone and his financial sector expertise, Sanberg co-founded Aspiration, the fastest growing mass-market financial services company in the United States, bringing superior investment and savings products to the middle class using a singular approach to fees powered entirely by the customers’ choice.
Sanberg is a founding investor in Blue Apron, the largest fresh meal-kit delivery company in the United States, providing reasonably-priced ready-to-prepare meals for individuals and families – resulting in millions of Americans affordably and more conveniently eating healthy, home-made dinners together.
Sanberg believes entrepreneurs have an important role to play in improving public policy and encouraging public service. He is a co-founder of the Economic Innovation Group, whose mission is to bring business leaders together with public policy leaders to stimulate action on job creation and other policy areas that expand economic opportunity. He serves as a member of the Board of Advisors of the University of California, Riverside School of Public Policy and provided full scholarships for seven graduate students in the program’s inaugural class.
Sanberg is also a founding investor and board member of Bright Funds, a digital platform that companies use to administer their employee charitable giving programs. He has had leadership roles in a number of public service organizations, including serving as Chair of the Board of the Jefferson Awards Foundation, which engages over 1 million young people each year in volunteerism and public service.
Understanding that California’s future is dependent on all of its citizens having real opportunity to succeed economically, Sanberg recently founded Golden State Opportunity – a platform to support meaningful efforts to improve the lives of lower and middle income Californians through a program of research, analysis, public information and education. An initial project of the Foundation is CalEITC4Me, an unprecedented statewide outreach campaign to encourage lower income Californians to claim the newly passed state earned income tax credit as well as the federal EITC – fostering economic opportunity and financial security for California’s working families and individuals.
Sanberg graduated from Harvard University, Magna Cum Laude. A native of Southern California, he attended Servite High School in Anaheim, where he has created an International Leadership Program that supports students learning Mandarin and visiting China.
