Golden State Opportunity (GSO) seeks a full-time Press Secretary to join our growing team. GSO is committed to developing comprehensive programs that help low-income workers develop financial stability so they can thrive. GSO’s programs focus on engaging low-income workers to claim their Earned Income Tax Credit, access public benefits and connect with resources to build financial security. GSO also works to end poverty through strategic advocacy at the state and federal levels. As a statewide organization, GSO has four offices across the state. Therefore, the successful candidate will be self-motivated and know how to work independently with excellent communication skills for working with remote regional offices.
The Press Secretary is a vital member of the Communications team and reports directly to the Vice Chair. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate who has the initiative and drive to establish GSO as a premier thought leader, advocate and resource for ending poverty.

Golden State Opportunity is an equal opportunity employer and will give equal consideration to all persons regardless of age, color, national origin, citizenship status, physical or mental disability, race, religion, creed, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, genetic information, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law.
Golden State Opportunity (GSO) has quickly become one of the most effective anti-poverty organizations in the country. With our principal program, CalEITC4Me, we have led in the creation and expansion of the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC), one of the strongest tools to alleviate poverty while stimulating the economy.
Through innovative digital outreach, grassroots organizing, coalition building, earned and paid media, and mobile messaging campaigns, GSO runs a multi-layered and cost-effective outreach program to spread awareness of the California and Federal EITC, as well as other public benefits, and promotes free tax preparation services.
In just this last year, GSO led in the effort to successfully double the Cal EITC, increasing it to a $1 billion program, and making it one of the largest anti-poverty initiatives in the country. We helped over 4 million families in California receive $4 billion through the California and Federal EITC.
