SAN FRANCISCO CA, June 23, 2020 — In response to a budget deal that will expand the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) to immigrant families who pay taxes using an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) and have children younger than age 6, Golden State Opportunity President Amy Everitt released the following statement:
“We applaud Gov. Gavin Newsom and the Legislature for including immigrant workers with young children in the CalEITC. Extending this proven anti-poverty program to families who pay taxes with ITINs, but who are still excluded from other forms of economic relief, is an important step forward during this difficult time. When people work hard at the same job and pay taxes, they should be able to receive the same refund when they file their tax return. We’ve made that true for some, but not all, workers with ITINs. At Golden State Opportunity, we will continue to advocate for an inclusive CalEITC that helps ALL Californians build financial security and thrive.”
