SAN FRANCISCO — President of Golden State Opportunity, Amy Everitt, released the following statement after reviewing Governor Newsom’s revised state budget proposal.

“Governor Newsom put forward his May revision, which makes a diligent effort to balance our state budget. We commend the continued support for California’s tax credit programs, such as CalEITC, Young Child Tax Credit, and Foster Youth Tax Credit. These programs have successfully prevented working families from falling into poverty and represent our shared promise to protect the economic stability of our most vulnerable citizens.

As state leaders grapple with tough choices to address the budget deficit, we continue to caution against cuts that threaten the economic security of families already struggling to pay their rent, buy fuel so they can commute to work, and put food on the table.

We urge our leaders to protect and maintain safety net reserves and anti-poverty programs, including $20 million for Free Tax Preparation Assistance (FTPA), Education and Outreach (E&O), and Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) Application Assistance to ensure all Californians have support to access these critical programs.”
